Clinical Breast Exams

Clinical Breast Exams in Frankfort, Illinois

Physician-led breast health screening, delivered with care, time, and reassurance

A clinical breast exam is a careful visual and manual evaluation of your breasts and the surrounding underarm and collarbone area, performed by a physician. At Sina Medical Direct Primary Care, Dr. Syeda Farheen Ali uses this simple, non-invasive exam to check for lumps, tissue changes, and other early signs that deserve a closer look, alongside your mammograms and monthly self-checks.

Breast health is deeply personal, and it deserves unhurried, attentive care. As a direct primary care practice, we are not rushing through a packed insurance schedule. Dr. Ali takes the time to understand your history, answer your questions honestly, and explain exactly what she finds, so you leave feeling informed rather than anxious.

Lumps, thickening, or areas of firmness in the breast tissue

Changes in breast size, shape, or symmetry

Swollen or abnormal lymph nodes in the underarm and collarbone

Skin dimpling, puckering, or texture changes

Nipple discharge, inversion, or changes in appearance

Areas of tenderness or persistent, unexplained pain

A baseline understanding of your normal breast characteristics

Concerns worth referring for a mammogram or ultrasound

How Clinical Breast Exams Work at Sina Medical Direct Primary Care

Your exam is quick, respectful, and usually painless, typically taking just a few minutes as part of a broader visit.

Review Your History

Dr. Ali begins by discussing your personal and family history, including any prior breast concerns, hormonal factors, and your risk profile, so the exam is tailored to you.

Visual Inspection

She visually examines your breasts for changes in size, shape, symmetry, and skin, and for any visible signs such as dimpling or nipple changes, with you seated and comfortable.

Gentle Palpation

Using the pads of her fingers, Dr. Ali gently palpates the full breast, underarm, and collarbone area while you are both seated and lying down, feeling for lumps or irregularities.

Discuss Your Findings

She explains what she found in plain language, answers your questions, and, if anything warrants further evaluation, arranges imaging such as a mammogram or ultrasound right away.

What We Treat

Who Should Consider a Clinical Breast Exam

Clinical breast exams are a valuable part of preventive care for women at every stage of life. For women ages 20 to 39 without a family history, an exam every one to three years is a reasonable rhythm; from age 40 onward, an annual exam alongside mammography is generally recommended.

If you notice a new lump, skin change, nipple discharge, or persistent pain at any age, do not wait, schedule promptly so Dr. Ali can evaluate it. Women with a personal or family history of breast cancer, dense breast tissue, or certain hormonal factors may benefit from more frequent monitoring, which Dr. Ali will help you plan.

The best time for an exam is usually about a week after your period, when breast tenderness and swelling are at their lowest. If you are postmenopausal, any regular time works well.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a clinical breast exam different from a mammogram?

A clinical breast exam is a hands-on physical evaluation performed by a physician, while a mammogram is an imaging test that uses low-dose X-rays. They complement each other: the clinical exam can detect changes you or Dr. Ali can feel, and mammography can find changes too small to feel. Both are important parts of breast cancer screening.

Does a clinical breast exam hurt?

No, the exam is not painful. You may feel gentle pressure as Dr. Ali palpates the tissue, and there can be minor, brief discomfort if an area is tender, but the exam is quick, non-invasive, and well tolerated by most people.

Can a clinical breast exam diagnose breast cancer?

A clinical breast exam can identify suspicious lumps or changes that need further evaluation, but it cannot diagnose cancer on its own. If Dr. Ali finds something concerning, she will arrange imaging and, if needed, a biopsy, which is the only way to confirm a diagnosis.

When is the best time to schedule my exam?

For menstruating women, about one week after your period starts is ideal, since breast tissue is least tender and swollen then. If you have any new symptom, however, schedule right away rather than waiting for a specific time in your cycle.

Is the clinical breast exam included in my membership?

Yes. Clinical breast exams are part of the preventive care included in your flat $89 per month membership, with no copays and no insurance billing. You also get unlimited visits, direct access to Dr. Ali, and wholesale-price labs and medications.

Can I use my HSA to pay for membership?

Starting January 1, 2026, direct primary care memberships are HSA-eligible under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, so you may be able to use HSA funds toward your Sina Medical Direct Primary Care membership. We are happy to help answer questions about how this applies to you.
